Data Sources and Online Tools
College Results Online - Education Trust
http://www.collegeresults.org/
Offers an interactive tool to examine and compare graduation rates for institutions.
The site includes a peer group generator and a variety of useful comparisons
in an easy-to-use format. Given the limitations of graduation rates due
to academic inputs and demographic factors, researchers should be careful
to place results from this site into the context of institutional mission
and higher education sector.
College Source Online - Career Guidance Foundation
http://www.collegesource.org/
Provides access to virtual college catalogs for most higher education institutions.
The resource is particularly useful for environmental scans of curricula,
policies, and procedures. Some information on the website can be dated as
institutions may not provide the must current catalog or bulletin.
IPEDS Peer Analysis System and Peer Executive Tool - National Center
for Education Statistics
http://nces.ed.gov/ipedspas/
Offers public access to a universe of educational data and statistics compiled
by the NCES. Of these two data sources, the Peer
Executive Tool is significantly easier to use and valuably provides
data in comparable formats (e.g expenditures per FTE); only a very limited
amount of data are presented. By contrast, the Peer
Analysis Tool includes all institutional data collected by the federal
government, but its rich complexity makes it more difficult to use.
